FAR Score Released! Also 2:30 am & 4 am Is Extremely Early

The Texas site was down at 2:30 am when I checked this morning for maintenance.  I guess this answers the "did they change when they update" question from yesterday.  A bit after 4 am I checked again after having almost no sleep and what sleep I did have was about checking my scores.  This time the site was down completely.  Another 15 minutes go by and the site finally comes up.  Scores are there.  I am so exhausted and my eyes are burning.  However, with my score of 94 on FAR I am finally done with this exam!  I'll add more later today after I've gotten some sleep.

  3. Congrats ATapia! I know you've been waiting for ages as well. What do you have left?

  4. I'm very jealous. Still waiting on my FAR score from Minnesota.

Congratulations! And thanks for doing this blog. I'm doing Becker self-study, and it's great to have someone else to follow along with for reactions on difficulty, practice test vs actual scores, etc.

  5. The daily "what did you do" was something I couldn't find when I was deciding to do the CPA exam. That is another part of why I did it. Hopefully my blind path will help others.

  6. Thanks Dale! I have REG left. I took AUD last week so I am waiting on that result as well but I feel a little more confident on my performance on that test than I did FAR. Hopefully that means good things! :)

I agree with Eva on how helpful this site has been. It's nice to be able to follow along!

I am not even done but after my experiences and reading yours.. I am true believer in Becker plus dedication pays off!

  7. FAR was the worst. I would rather take all three of the other sections again than take FAR once. REG had a lot of material but once you understand how the IRS thinks REG is pretty straight forward and almost easy. REG was the least painful of the sections for me.

  8. Question- Now I am confused. You mentoned that you are lucky if you get 50% of the simulations correct. If that is how you felt leaving the exam, then how do they grade. Is it graded based on a raw score or do they take other things into consideration while grading.

    Again congratulations! :)

  9. Congrats on passing all 4 parts! I am in TX too. I got a 93 on REG and I took AUD on 4/17. I didn't get my score for AUD today, so I guess I am in wave 2..... I am in the process of studying for FAR now and I know what you mean about it being the worst. I have really enjoyed reading your day to day experiences with the CPA exam. Thanks for the insight and good luck to you!

  10. The simulations are currently worth 20% of the exam. The MC are worth 70%. Assuming for a moment that you get 100% on the MC questions that gives you 70 points on the exam. You only need 5 points to get to the 75. In theory if you aced the MC you could get 25% on the simulations and skip the written and still pass. Things are just weighted very heavily towards the MC part. Starting in January 2011 the MC drops to 60% though and the simulations will be more important. But for me, my goal was to focus almost exclusively on the MC as that was the bulk of the grade.

Jana, my understanding is that the AICPA released part of the AUD scores and still had more in Wave 1 to release. You might continue to check over the next couple of days to see if it is released as part of Wave 1, although not with the initial release. Score releases were wonky last quarter and are proving to be wonky this quarter as well.

I can't explain how crappy getting through FAR is. The other 3 sections really weren't all that bad. FAR is just awful.

Thanks for the posts and thanks for reading the blog. I've got several more posts I'd like to do after I settle into the fact that I've finished this exam. I continue to hope that what I've done here will help others.

One of the big things on my list will be trying to figure out what to do after I've passed the exam. I know there are fees, work experience, and an ethics thing, but that is the whole of my current knowledge.

  11. Dale, after reading your blog you're now one of my inspirations! Your story is such a great motivator! I am jealous of your very high scores! :) I am taking FAR first, maybe end of August(haven't not started studying yet so I don't think I have the time) or first week of October. I'm planning to take FAR and AUD this year plus REG if that's possible. I am a the greatest procastinator.

  12. The key is just to get in and do it. Break it up into small pieces and take it one day at a time. Realize that life is going to suck for 6 months to a year and that it is short term pain.

  13. I just took FARS. I was not able to finish the second sim. I felt my performance was pretty strong for the MCs, but I bombed the sims. I think the only way I passed was if I got 90%-95% on MCs because I think I got a 35%-45% on the sims.

    I pray I passed.

Everyone says that FAR is the hardest, but that makes no sense. I've spent all my time in college on FAR. I only took a few courses in AUD and REG.

  14. FAR is just nasty. There isn't any specific reason why it is, it just comes out like that.

Don't panic too much. I got cut off during my 2nd sim and felt like crap on both sims. Be happy that you are through FAR and wait for the scores.

  15. I think one of the reasons I did so poorly on the sims is I did not practice them. I did not even realize that there was a research component to the sims until after the exam.

My next test is AUD. I'm going to master all the Becker sims this time, not just the MCs.

  17. Keep at it. 80% of the people that start this exam eventually get through it. That being said, you really have to have a good grasp of the material in order to pass. One day at a time and solid focus are needed to get there.

  19. If you took it on November 13th you'll get it in Wave 2 around the 17th-25th of December.
